The Covenant of Water
This book might have changed my life. He represents these trials and lessons we repeatedly find ourselves dealing with across the course of a lifetime in such a poetic yet very real way. It honestly struck me to my core.
Books that follow a family through generations always get me, but this one was particularly powerful. The expansive web that connects the characters in this book overlayed with the connections of water is so beautiful.
He bridges the gap between spirituality and science in a way that surprisingly appealed to me. It made me think a lot about my family upbringing in the south and the way elders interpret blessings and curses as acts of God. I find equal amounts of fascination in these moments of life, albeit for very different reasons.
“Can anyone really replace a mother?”. The depiction of female experiences are unrivaled to most male authors I’ve read. He captures this bond felt between women due to our shared experiences so well. I can’t imagine going through the loss of my mother as inevitable as it may be.
I can see myself rereading this to gain different lessons across various stages of life. What a rollercoaster.
